Peter Gotti requested for early release

It wasn’t the first time that the 81-year-old mafia don and brother of former Gambino leader John Gotti requested for an early release from prison as he had sent a similar request some time back.

According to the Daily News, Peter Gotii requested freedom citing health reasons. He said that he was suffering from heart problems, dementia, blindness and cancer. He even wrote a letter to court saying that he was a changed man and that he wanted to be at home with his family. He further wrote that he would tell everyone that there was no benefit to unlawful activities.

But the judge denied freedom saying that Peter Gotti was a threat to society. It wasn’t that Gotti would personally engage in criminal activities but that he could command others, said the judge.

Second time Peter Gotti approached the court with a request for early release after three inmates and six staff members at the prison tested positive for the pandemic. He said that he was at risk of getting pandemic at the Butler Federal Medical Center in North Carolina.

Peter Gotti serving his jail term

Sentenced 25-year jail, Peter Gotti has already completed 18 years of his term but he is seeking an early release. According to authorities, he took reins of Gambino crime family in 1999 after seven years of his brother’s conviction in 1992. Sentenced to life for five counts murder and other charges, John Gotti died of cancer in 2002. He was 61.
