How to secure your bet in Blackjack?

Blackjack is a gambling card game whose origin can be traced to North America where it is known as Twenty-One. It is a multi-player game but the players compete with a dealer instead of themselves. The objective of the game is to reach a winning hand of 21 numbers.

History

The first written instance of Blackjack was found in a Spanish book but it occurred for the first time in France in 1768 followed by Britain during the 1770s and 80s. In America, it appeared in 1800 and was known as Vingt-Un. Though rules of the game were formed in 1800, the print record of the rules was found in 1825. Around 1899, it was renamed Blackjack.

Betting table

It is a semi-circular table with up to seven players sitting on the front and the dealer in the middle. Each player has a Hand that is the total value of two cards. Earlier the game was played with a single 52-card deck but today multiple card-decks are used in order to prevent players from monitoring the cards.

What is a Hand in Blackjack?

Each player is dealt with two cards whose total value in numbers is taken as a Hand. Here Aces are 1 or 11; Face Cards are 10 and the rest of the cards retain their index value. The winning number is 21. If a player makes 21 with the first two cards like Ace + Face Card, he is declared Blackjack or natural winner. In case a Hand value increases 21, it is called a Bust and the player with Bust Hand loses his betting amount.

Rules

Players are dealt two cards each face down. The dealer gets his cards at the end. But he gets a card face. And the game starts with the dealer checking his cards and taking one of the following actions.

If the dealer’s face-up card is a Face Card or Ace or 10, the players can go for an insurance bet to secure their money against the dealer. The dealer checks his face down card and calculates the value. If it is 21, he wins. The dealer reveals his Blackjack and the players lose all their money.

Stand: You choose to remain with the cards dealt if you have a number closer to 21 and you believe that others are much behind.

Hit: You choose to get a third-card if your hand total is less than 17. The third card is dealt face up. Similarly, you can get fourth-card.

Double Down: Your Hand value is 9, 10 or 11 and you feel lucky enough to double your wager hoping to make a Blackjack with a third-card. The third card is dealt and you are forced to stand on that hand.

Split: You get two cards of the same denomination. You choose to split your bet into two. Here you will get one card each for each bet.

Surrender: You surrender your hand and take back half of the betting price.

Insurance: You give an insurance amount to come out even in the event of losing the bet.
